Citizens who promote division and violence in our country are either naïve, ignorant or have motives other than defense of our constitution, fellow citizens and democracy. The more divided we become the more likely we will engage in civil war. If we are to survive as a country, change must come through peaceful means – civil interaction that is discussion, agreement and action. We citizens must hold our politicians, elected officials and appointees accountable to focus not on gaining or retaining power but come to agreement on what is good for citizens and take such action.
Peace is much less painful than war. Peace and quiet revolution through discussion, agreement and action is more acceptable to us citizens because we have participated in decisions made and actions taken rather than having been forced through violence to accept decisions we don’t support. War is an effort through fear, violence and killing to bring others under control. Civil war turns family against family, slaughters your family and mine, brings about distrust and destruction throughout the entire citizenry and would cause those conditions to prevail for generations and even centuries. All we have to do is look at the aftermath of our own civil war and the conditions in other areas of the world to verify this. War is no answer. It causes hate, disorder and bitter extended memories. War is a double-edged sword – everyone suffers. All are cut deeply. Is that what we want in this country? I don’t and I don’t believe any reasonable person does. If war and destruction is your goal, then promote division. If peace and harmony is your goal, promote unity.
