How you love God

For those who believe we are in "the end times", wouldn't we be in better stead with the returning Christ if we were seeking to adhere to his most important commandments? Love God completely and your neighbor as yourself. If these commandments were not to be lived, why would they have been given? How you love God will determine how you love your neighbor. It seems to me that you cannot love God unless you love your neighbor.
